But how does reading actually develop? Sharon Walpole will review research on oral reading fluency and provide the rationale for its central focus in Bookworms Shared Reading. She will share the relationship between automaticity with sounds, and patterns and text fluency. She will explain why the use of natural text for fluency work propels the self teaching mechanism central to building reading vocabulary. The session will include a challenge to Bookworms teachers and leaders to keep their eye on this prize.
